Spirou and Fantasio is a comic strip series published in Spirou’s JournalIts publication began in 1938 and the series became one of the most popular Franco-Belgian comics.

It features the characters of Spirou and Fantasio, reporters, most often accompanied by Spirou’s pet squirrel: Spip and Marsupilami. Their adventures lead them to confront various gangsters, as well as dictators and other mad scientists in adventures mixing humor, science fiction and fantasy.

This statue pays homage to Franquin, it takes up the protagonists created by himself namely Spirou, Spip, Marsupilami and even Gaston through the comics that they read.
