Usurpation and Ascent

Originally known as Uxas, Darkseid was the younger prince of Apokolips. Through calculated betrayal, he assassinated his older brother Drax and claimed the power of the Omega Effect, transforming into a massive, rock-skinned being and taking the name Darkseid.
When his father Yuga Khan was imprisoned at the Source Wall, Queen Heggra assumed leadership—until Darkseid ordered Desaad to poison her after she orchestrated the death of Suli, the woman he loved. From that moment on, he abandoned all emotion and seized the throne of Apokolips. His uncle Steppenwolf soon submitted to his rule, becoming his military commander.

Universal Conquest and Conflict

As ruler, Darkseid waged a billion-year war against New Genesis, led by Highfather. He once lured 3,600 Green Lanterns into a trap to test the Corps’ strength. The conflict eventually forced the Guardians of the Universe to negotiate, declaring Apokolips a restricted zone.
During Crisis on Infinite Earths, Darkseid gravely wounded the Anti-Monitor with his devastating Omega Beam.

Pursuit of the Anti-Life Equation

Darkseid’s ultimate ambition is control of the Anti-Life Equation, believing it will strip the universe of free will and place all existence under his rule. This mission has made him a sworn enemy of Earth’s heroes.
In Final Crisis, he nearly succeeded—corrupting Earth, merging with the multiverse, and only being stopped by the combined efforts of the heroes.

Threat Across the Multiverse

In the New 52 continuity, Darkseid invaded the primary Earth, prompting the formation of the Justice League.
During the Darkseid War, he battled the Anti-Monitor and was killed—an event that forced members of the Justice League to ascend to temporary godhood.
Later, Darkseid was reborn, trapped in an infant’s body, and subsequently resurrected into his full power.
